A competition winning entry from invited design competition of three distinguished architects in Korea. One of the critical challenges involved with the site was dealing with an adjacent small creek park and open ground car-park area. With the future extension in mind, we have created a ‘court’ scheme with various volumes mimicking Herzog De Meuron’s Vitra House concept (to reinterpret the vitra house in Basel was a part of design criteria). The main pedestrian entries were accentuated with a balcony like open space where shoppers could ‘rest’ and ‘entertained’.
These forms serve as a “landmark” from the surrounding roads and parks. The internal courts were also linked by metal-clad towers as ‘way-finding’ devices. The final product is a new ‘urban’ park where people can rest and be entertained as they shop throughout the day. |
